Traveling back in time a bit for the next few posts, as I want to increase the posting frequency but don't have a lot of time at the moment to go through all of the new stuff. So...dipping back into the library to share various adventures and projects. Here is one...
I'm originally from Michigan and I went back there last October for the first time in about three years to visit family and friends. Had the chance to see my great friend Melissa, who has a band in Detroit. She is a classically trained opera singer turned rock star queen! Described as "rock and soul", they are a big part of the nighttime scene in the metro area. They play gigs nearly every weekend and are very active in charity work, primarily raising money for breast cancer awareness. Talented original work and they can pretty much cover almost anything. Melissa also is involved in a jazz quartet-type of project and does acoustic shows as well.
The shots in this series were from a bar show in Detroit..I don't even remember the name of the place. But it was great fun, though the lighting challenges were many! Once again, moving around in the crowd and working the various elements of light, technology, and subject matter is quite a combination to keep track of. This is another part of photography that is fascinating and stressful all at the same time. Trying to capture fleeting moments of events and situations that I generally have little control over in terms of what might happen and what I might get. Tons of effort distilled down into just a few great shots...THAT is the photojournalistic style. It's worth it!

Woohooo, I'm glad you dig it! Thanks for an awesome evening!
Hey Bri...I think the energy of the performance really comes through in these photos. I bet this is a great band to see live. Just goes to show that Michigan kids ROCK! Nice work!
